How to create a warm, cosy glow as the nights draw in
As the clocks go back and the darker evenings settle in, it’s amazing how quickly our homes can start to feel a little dull and flat. That’s it’s so important to have cosy lighting for autumn and winter, not just to help us see, but to make our homes feel warm, welcoming and comfortable.
Dark corners
I’m sure I’m not the only one with a few dark spots that never seem to get enough light!
Smarter lighting for cosier evenings
One of the best we’ve enjoyed for years is our Alexa controlled lighting. At dusk, the lights automatically come on, creating instant warmth and security .. especially handy when we’re away.
I, also found this particularly helpful when my dad was with us. Being partially sighted, being able to simply ask for the lights to come on made his life so much easier. No searching for switches or stumbling around in the dark .. just instant light and comfort.
If you’re thinking about smart lighting for your home it’s definitely worth exploring. You can set timers, dim lights for evenings in, and easily control them remotely. It’s practical, energy-efficient, and makes your home feel that little bit more “alive.” Or even like us get the Christmas tree lights connected up so when they come on they are accompanied by Christmas music …the jury is still out on this, not sure I always want music and light on together!
The cordless lighting trend
Another favourite discovery of mine this year is cordless and rechargeable lighting. These clever lamps are perfect for brightening awkward corners without messy cables or costly rewiring. For us, it’s the washing-up area ..at night it’s so dim you can barely see what you’re doing but it’s such an awkward place.
Whether it’s a hallway that needs soft light, a reading nook that feels too dark, or a spot where you can’t run new wiring, a rechargeable lamp is a quick and stylish fix. Plus you no longer need to go to bespoke suppliers I found a nice little range in TKMaxx as well as a gorgeous variety in Pooky.
The only challenge.. Remembering to charge the bulbs but the flexibility and freedom they bring far outweigh that small inconvenience.

Layer your lighting for warmth and depth
If you’re wondering how to make your home feel cosy this autumn, the secret lies in layered lighting. Combine ceiling lights for general brightness, table or floor lamps for softness, and accent lights to highlight artwork, shelving or architectural features.
And don’t forget the magic of warn tones bulbs, that golden glow can completely transform the mood of a room, turning it from cold to comforting in seconds.

Lighting up your home and your wellbeing
Lighting isn’t just practical, it also has a huge impact how we feel. As the darker months roll in, taking time to refresh your lighting can boost both your mood, improve the ambience of your home and provide cosy lighting for autumn and winter,
So whether you’re a fan of smart home technology, love the simplicity of cordless lighting, or prefer the charm of a classic table lamp, it’s worth experimenting with what works best for your space.
